Sizing Questions, Answered

Do I have to measure my nails to order?

No. If you choose Standard Sizing (Small, Medium, or Large), you don't need to measure anything — just pick the size that sounds closest to your hands and I'll build your set from there. Measuring is only required if you want Custom Measurements for the closest possible fit. And if you'd rather skip both, the Sizing Kit lets you try on actual nail tips at home before you commit to a set.

What if I fall between two sizes?

Always go up. A press-on nail that's slightly too large can be gently filed at the sides to fit your nail perfectly. A nail that's too small can't be made wider once it's on — and it'll look unnatural and lift faster. When in doubt, size up and file down.

Can I file press-on nails to fit?

Yes — gently. The sides of a press-on can be filed to narrow them slightly and match your sidewalls. This is especially useful if your measurements land between sizes, or if a standard size is close but not quite exact. Use a fine-grit nail file and go slowly. You can also lightly file the cuticle edge if the nail needs to sit a little lower.

Story time. Years ago before I began making nails, I ordered a set for myself from another nail artist. They were all too big and I filed them like crazy! Just had to be careful not to go so far that I messed up her design but I HAD to wear them for a special event and couldn't get new ones from FRANCE on time. Anyway, yes, you can file. Just go slowly and try not to touch the design or art.

Why do all ten nails need to be measured?

Because they're probably not all the same size — and that's completely normal. Your dominant hand is often slightly wider than your non-dominant hand. Some people have ring fingers that run narrower than expected, or thumbs that don't follow the pattern of the rest of their hand at all. Measuring all ten means your set fits every finger, not just most of them.

Does shape or length affect my size?

Shape affects the visual width of the nail, but not the measurement you take from your nail bed. Your nail bed width stays the same regardless of whether you choose square, coffin, almond, or oval. That said, different shapes use different nail tip styles, and I select the tips that work best within your chosen shape and length once I have your measurements or size choice.

My nails are very wide / I have a D-curve / my thumbs don't fit standard sizes. What should I do?

Reach out before you order. Wide nail beds, pronounced C-curves, flat nails, and other shapes that don't respond well to standard sizing are exactly what the Precision Fit option is for. I have additional fitting methods available — including fingertip mold kits — and we'll find the right approach together before anything gets made.

What if the nails don't fit when they arrive?

Because every set is handmade to order, I can't accept returns. But I genuinely want your nails to fit, and if something is off despite careful sizing on both our parts, reach out before leaving a review. I'll work with you to make it right.

Do press-on nails damage natural nails?

Not when applied and removed correctly. The nails themselves don't cause damage — it's usually improper removal (peeling or forcing them off rather than soaking) that causes issues. I'll have an Application & Care guide up soon with everything you need to know for a safe wear and clean removal.

I've ordered from you before and know my size. Do I need to measure again?

No. Once I've made a set for you, I keep your sizing on file. Just mention you're a returning customer when you order and we'll start from there.

I don't have a flexible measuring tape or a ruler. What can I use?

A strip of scotch tape and any straight edge works — even a piece of paper folded to a clean edge. Press the tape across your nail, mark both sidewalls with a pen, peel it off flat, and measure the marked distance. That's it. Or skip measuring entirely and order the Sizing Kit — everything you need is in the box.

Standard Sizing (easiest, most common)

Choose Small, Medium, or Large at checkout. Most customers fit comfortably into one of these three sizes, and this is the most common and straightforward way to order.

Every set is still handmade to order in your chosen shape and length. Standard sizing simply means I use MMN's established size chart instead of individual nail measurements.

Not sure which size? The chart below shows a common standard, that we use.

Don't worry if these numbers don't mean much yet — Try one of the measuring methods to keep it quick and easy. And if your measurements are smaller or larger than what is shown, custom sizing will be best for you. Just let me know.

Custom Measurements (closest fit, no extra cost)

Measure all ten nails and share your measurements with your order. I'll select individual nail tips based on your specific widths within your chosen shape and length. This is the best option if you want the closest possible fit, or if your measurements don't land squarely in one size category.

Custom measurements don't change the price of your set. The only additional cost would be if you purchase a sizing tool from me — which is entirely optional.

How to measure (two methods, both work equally well):

With a soft measuring tape: Wrap the tape horizontally across your nail bed at its widest point — not around the finger, just across the nail. Write down the number you see, your nail width in mm. For many people, the widest part of the fingernail is about 1/3 of the way up from the cuticle. For some people, or some nails, it may be different. As an example, a couple of my nails have a slightly flared shape and the widest spot is closer to my fingertip.

With tape and a ruler: Press a small strip of scotch tape flat across your nail bed from sidewall to sidewall. Mark both edges with a pen, peel it off, and measure the distance between the marks with a ruler. As before, measure each nail at the widest part.

Measure all ten nails and note them down. No judgment if you've never measured a nail before — most people haven't. Nails on the same hand aren't always the same size, and your dominant hand is often slightly wider. It is normal for some nails to be the same, some to be different, and sometimes every nail is different.

Take your time. You'll only need to measure once, and I'll keep your sizing on file for future orders.

Note: If you fall between two sizes: go up. You can gently file the edges of a press-on to narrow it slightly; there's no way to make a nail wider once it's on.
